The music soared!

Music has been a key part of life in Coromandel Valley since the early days and so the concert featuring the fine talents of the Tanunda Liedertafel and supporting artists was much anticipated.

Held in the Blackwood Hills Baptist Church on Saturday 28 July, the concert program covered a diversity of musical genre for an appreciative audience. Musical Director and Conductor Robert Homburg OAM and his protégé Matthew Falland led the choir through classics by Schubert, Bach, Arwyn and Caccini as well as contemporary favourites by Lerner & Lowe, Rogers & Hammerstein and Robert Stolz.

Soprano Nikki Birrell'sThe Carnival is Over” was captivating and Peter Brownridge’s Oboe delivered an elegant and inspiring rendition of Saint Saens The Swan. Soloists Phil Lamb (Tenor) and James Kerrigan (Baritone) had the audience in stitches as they hammed it up performing Offenbach's Gendarmes' Duet.

While the Choir, soloists and supporting artists took their turns on stage, the highly skilled fingers of talented Accompanist Gwenda Rees OAM flew across the piano keyboard for each and every performance.

When the concert was over and the applause died down, the Choristers and Musicians joined their audience for a delicious afternoon tea and a chat.
